Severna Park resident, Wes Adams, running for State’s Attorney

Wes AdamsWes Adams filed paperwork late last month to be an official candidate for the open State’s Attorney’s seat in Anne Arundel County. The current State’s Attorney was appointed by the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court to fill out the term of longtime State’s Attorney Frank Weathersbee, who resigned last year to take a position in the O’Malley Administration. Adams will appear on the Republican Ballot in the Primary Election and if successful will then appear on the General Ballot this upcoming November.

“Twenty years ago, when I began my career in law, I was drawn by the opportunity to do something good for society. My parents stressed public service and I am privileged each and every day to be able to help our community be a safer place to live and work,” said Adams.

Wes Adams, a 14 year resident of Severna Park, is the current Chief of the Homicide Division for the State’s Attorney’s Office in Prince George’s County. During his tenure, Adams is credited with increasing the homicide conviction rate to an historic high of 93%. As a direct result, the number of homicides has fallen nearly 58% and now stands at its lowest level in over 30 years.

“Wes Adams is a strong trial attorney and leader. He created a collaborative environment between his office and the police, the court system and the public. These relationships have been key to the record conviction rates his Division is producing,” said Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County State’s Attorney.

“With the criminal element increasingly encroaching the borders of Anne Arundel County, it is imperative that the State’s Attorney’s office take a more active role in combating crime. Wes Adams has the experience, the collaborative nature and the proven track record to be successful. Wes Adams has my vote and my full support,” said State Delegate Nic Kipke (Pasadena).

“Anne Arundel County needs a tough top prosecutor who will be active and involved in solving crime in our County. Wes Adams has a proven record as a successful prosecutor who is not afraid to take a tough stance on difficult issues,” said State Delegate Cathy Vitale (Severna Park).

In the last 6 years, in addition to overseeing the Homicide Division, Adams personally prosecuted 47 cases, securing guilty pleas or convictions in all but one.

In 2011, Adams received the Governor’s Citation for Crime Victim’s Rights after working for a new law on witness intimidation and for securing the first conviction under the new law. Adams is also a recognized expert on the use of wireless forensics and has taught classes on this subject at the Goldstein Criminal Law Seminar and the Maryland Police Training Commission.

Wes and his wife are raising three children (ages 15, 11 and 10). He attends church at St. John’s the Evangelist in Severna Park and is currently a Green Hornet football and baseball coach (6 seasons) and serves on the board (as Secretary) of the Greater Severna Park Council. Wes graduated from Amherst College in 1991 with a double degree in English and Political Science. After a short career playing minor league professional baseball, he graduated from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law. Wes and his wife are strong supporters of the American Red Cross.
