On February 14, 2014 at 9:38 p.m. officers were working Operation HOPE (Heroin Overdose Prevention and Eradication) at the Extended Stay hotel on 1 Womack Dr when officers witnessed a hand-to-hand CDS transaction.
Upon further investigation, officers developed information that led them to room 329. The officers went to that room and knocked on the door to talk to the residents. While they were knocking, two people in the room jumped out of the 3rd story window and fled. Two other individuals from room 331 also jumped out of the window and fled.
While they were fleeing, one suspect dropped a loaded Beretta 9mm handgun. Officers were able to recover the handgun. Further investigation revealed the gun was stolen in a Calvert County burglary.
A Police K-9 and Aviation Unit responded to assist patrol officers in the search for the suspects. Three were found to have fled in a vehicle. That vehicle was later located on Bens Dr in Annapolis by Annapolis City police and the three occupants were arrested. The fourth person, a juvenile suspect, was found after he fled towards Tarragon Lane. He was later arrested while walking on Route-2.
Officers, assisted by narcotics detectives, later secured and executed a search and seizure warrant for the hotel rooms. Officers seized 1g heroin, 6.7g marijuana, over $3,000 cash and substantial evidence indicating CDS distribution activity was occurring. Detectives were also able to confirm that the suspects had flushed an unknown quantity of CDS down the toilet before fleeing the room.
All four suspects were charged as adults with:
- Wear/possession of a handgun
- Possess handgun with drug trafficking
- Possession of Heroin
- Possession of Marijuana
- Theft of the handgun
Additionally, suspect Brandon Johnson was charged with Distribution of Heroin and the remaining three were charged with Possession with intent to distribute Heroin.

- Gerald Delaney Hyman, 23, of the 400 block of Merryman Rd. Annapolis, MD
- Shaun Aris Crowdy, 21, of the 1200 block of Summerwood Ct. Arnold, MD
- Charles Albert Wells 4th, 17, of the Unit block of Julianna Cir. Annapolis, MD (juvenile charged as adult)
