Annapolis Police Report: Shooting, Arrests, Armed Robbery

police-blotter-graphicUpdate to Shooting – 201400000199 – 700 block of Newtowne Dr – 01/13 at 7:47pm:  Devonte Simms, 19, of Annapolis was walking in the area of the 700 block of Newtowne Dr when he heard a gunshot and started running.  As he was running he heard a second gunshot and was struck once in the foot.  Simms was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center for a non-life threatening injury.  On January 27th Craig Ireland, 19, of Annapolis was charged in the shooting of Devonte Simms.

Annapolis Police Department detectives determined that earlier in the evening on January 13th Devonte Simms and Craig Ireland were involved in an argument.  At that time Simms produced a gun and shot at Ireland, missing him.  Ireland fled from the area and later returned and shot Simms in the ankle.  On February 7th Simms was arrested and charged with attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, and use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime.  He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.  Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to contact Detective Charles Bealefeld at 410-268-9000 ext. 7299 or [email protected].

Update to Armed Robbery/Shooting – 201400000317 – 900 block of President St – 01/21 at 12:53am:  Officers located SieFullah Bridges, 36, of Philadelphia outside of the building suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.  Bridges was in the area when he was approached by three men who took his wallet.  During the robbery Bridges was shot multiple times.  Bridges was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma for treatment.

Annapolis Police Department detectives identified Avaun Johnson, 27, of Pasadena as the shooter of SieFullah Bridges.  On February 7, 2014 detectives from the Annapolis Police Department, with the assistance of Anne Arundel County Police Department officers, arrested Johnson in Glen Burnie.  Johnson is charged with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime, armed robbery, robbery, and theft less than $1,000.  Johnson is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond on these charges.  If you have information about this incident please contact Detective John Murphy at 410-268-9000 ext. 7268 or [email protected].

Attempted Burglary – 201400000643 – 100 block of Conduit St – 01/12 at 6am to 02/07 at 5pm:  Someone attempted to force open a front facing ground floor window to the residence.  The home was not entered.

Shooting – 201400000671 – 1400 block of Tyler Av – 02/08 at 10:54pm:  The adult male victim was sitting in a vehicle when two male suspects wearing masks approached him.  Each suspect was holding a gun.  The victim and the two suspects started fighting and the victim was shot in the arm.  The wound was a shallow cut and the victim refused to go to the hospital.  If you have information about this incident please contact Detective Jon-Paul Hipsky at 410-268-9000 ext. 7277 or [email protected].

Armed Robbery – 201400000689 – Shaw St near South St – 02/09 at 9:18pm:  Two adult men were walking in the area when two male suspects wearing masks approached them from behind.  One suspect may have had a gun and both suspects searched the victims’ pockets.  Money was taken from both victims.  The suspects fled the area on foot.  If you have information about this incident please contact Detective John Murphy at 410-268-9000 ext. 7268 or [email protected].

Neighborhood Watch Meeting
The next Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 12, from 6:30pm to 8pm at Annapolis Police Headquarters, 199 Taylor Avenue.  This meeting’s topic will be “Human Trafficking in Annapolis”.  Retired Detective Jeffrey Hartlove will talk about a human trafficking case involving brothels being operated in Annapolis.  Food will be served so please RSVP to Sgt.
