AAWDCThe Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) today announced that the Pathways to Cybersecurity Training Program achieved excellent results and helped to address the critical shortage of skilled cybersecurity and information assurance workers in regional government agencies and businesses. In 2010 a 3-year, $4.9 million grant was awarded to AAWDC from the Department of Labor to train cybersecurity professionals and increase the pipeline of skilled cybersecurity professionals with industry certifications.

In partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development in Baltimore City, the Mid-Maryland Workforce Investment Area, Howard Community College, Carroll Community College, and Anne Arundel Community College, AAWDC led this initiative and established a goal to enroll more than 1,000 individuals in the program. To date, the program has enrolled 1,149, trained 886, awarded 755 certificates and helped to get 721 participants employed.

By forming a three way partnership with community colleges, workforce investment agencies and the business communities, AAWDC created one of the most successful and adept models in helping people gain new careers. The Business Advisory Council also introduced an extremely innovative process by bringing together the businesses, gathering feedback and applying it to the program instantaneously.

“We are going to take the best practices from this grant and implement into our other programs and other growth industries such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing,” said Mr. Kirkland Murray, President and CEO of AAWDC.  “Best practices include an industry-sector approach, cross-jurisdictional collaboration in job training and business engagement, and innovative job placement strategies. We could not have done this without a true partnership, and I’d like to thank all of our partners who made this happen.”
