Encore Chorale Summer Programs Announced

music-notes1Registration is now open for Encore Chorale’s Summer Choral Institutes offering “singing summer camp” for older adults.   The Institutes are sponsored by Encore Creativity for Older Adults, the nation’s largest chorale program for adults 55+.  The institutes, now in their 7th year, will attract adult students from all over the country to learn a new art, or continue to perfect lifelong skills.  All levels of vocal and performance experience are welcomed.

The Encore Choral Institute at Washington College in Chestertown, MD will run from June 15-19 and is led by Encore founder and conductor Jeanne Kelly, and Krystal Rickard McCoy, music director of St. Maries Musica and the Southern Maryland Encore Chorale.  Singers have a full day starting with stretch/Yoga class and followed by a full choral rehearsal.   After lunch singers will choose from a vocal technique class, a choral sectional, or free time.  An afternoon choral rehearsal will follow.   Repertoire will include spirituals, oratorio selections, songs from the American Song Book and Broadway.  Singers may sit for rehearsals and performance.  The program will culminate in a free grand finale performance on Thursday, June 19 for friends, family and the public in the Daniel Z. Gibson Center for Performing Arts on the Washington College campus.

Encore Creativity returns to the famed Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua NY from August 24-29, 2014.  The Choral Institute will be conducted by Jeanne Kelly and Jeffrey Dokken, an accomplished composer and the conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia and its Chorale, as well as the Alexandria and Leisure World Encore Chorales.  The repertoire will include spirituals, oratorio selections, songs from the American Songbook and Broadway favorites.  Afternoon sectionals or vocal technique classes will offer singers opportunities to improve their skills, and a grand finale performance on Friday, August 29 will be open to the Chautauqua community.

Participant program fees include all classes, materials, accommodations on site, and meals.  Commuter students are welcome at both locations and fees adjusted accordingly. Non-participating spouses or guests are also welcome and their fees include shared accommodations and meals with the program participants. Institute participants need not be current Encore singers.  The registration deadline for the Washington College program is May 15, and for the Chautauqua program on July 30, 2014.
