Robert and Cindy Holden will present a lecture on their voyage across the Atlantic to Europe and Africa on their boat “Tenacity,” which is a 47ft semi custom ketch.
Robert is a sail maker and works for North Sails. Cindy is a freelance artist and owner of Fletcher Art, where she specializes in boat lettering, murals, and oil paintings. Robert and Cindy have been sailing since childhood. Robert was a successful dinghy racer and an avid Jet 14 racer. He has also done a lot of serious offshore racing. Cindy grew up around boats and has made many offshore sailboat deliveries. This collection of experiences left them well prepared to deal with a wide range of challenges on the open ocean!
The idea for the trip across the Atlantic was born about 20 years ago. More serious planning began about 2002 and got very serious in 2008. The voyage started from Annapolis in 2011 and carried Robert and Cindy to Bermuda, the Azores, mainland Portugal and Spain. As their trip continued, the winds took them to the Madeira and Canary Islands, Cape Verde, West Africa, and back across the Atlantic to Antigua. After two years of cruising Robert and Cindy returned to Annapolis, realizing a successful end to their epic adventure!
The event is open to club members and the general public.
