Three Arrested In Annapolis Home Depot Incident

On January 29, 2014 at approximately 4:52 p.m. officers responded to the Home Depot located at 55 Forest Dr Annapolis Maryland for a shoplifting that just occurred.

The suspects loaded up a shopping cart with power tools valued at more than $1000.00 and attempted to walk out of the front door. At that time, store employees attempted to stop them at the front door.

While en route to the call, officers received information that the suspects involved had displayed a Taser and had sparked it in order to prevent store employees from stopping the shoplifting thus placing fear of bodily harm to the employees who immediately backed off.

The suspects fled in a White Crown Victoria in an unknown direction.  A broadcast was given at which time Anne Arundel County Police Western District Patrol Officers spotted the vehicle on Route 50 near Route 424. The officers then made an investigative traffic stop.  The occupants fit the description of the suspects involved.

Officers brought a witness from the store to the scene and the witness positively identified the one of the occupants as a suspect from the store.  There were two other suspects in the vehicle and they both were detained. Officers were further able to recover the Taser.

All three suspects were taken to Southern District.  The Criminal Investigation Division and the Southern District Detective Unit responded to assist in the investigation. Through the investigation, officers were able to charge two suspects, Tyrone Freeman, 29, of Lanham and Ruston Hopson, 24, of Bowie, with 1st Degree assault 2nd degree assault and Theft over $1,000.00. The third occupant was not charged with anything related to the shoplifting, but he was arrested on three outstanding warrants for trespassing.

SUSPECTS:

  • Tyrone Edward Freeman, 29, of the 6400 block Dahlgreen Ct. Lanham, Md 21706 charged 1st Degree assault 2nd degree assault and Theft over $1,000.00
  • Ruston Anthony Hopson, 24, of the 15000 block of Plum Tree Way Bowie, MD 20721 charged 1st Degree assault 2nd degree assault and Theft over $1,000.00.
  • Antwon Maurice Barron, 24, of the 2300 Brightseat Rd. Landover, MD 20785.
