Patch Fires Anne Arundel County Editors In Conference Call

Patch logo from AOLMost of the remaining local editors with Patch in Anne Arundel County were terminated earlier this morning in a 2 minute long termination call.

Patch came onto the local news scene several years ago and appeared to be gaining ground on traditional media. Unfortunately, they were unable to find a profit in the business model and changes were made. The Anne Arundel County Patches at one time numbered 10.  They dwindled to 6. And today, no one seems to know. In Anne Arundel, there were Patch websites for Annapolis, Edgewater-Davidsonville, Crofton, Odenton-Severn, Severna Park, Glen Burnie, Broadneck, and a general Anne Arundel County Patch.  Each site employed one local editor who was overseen by a regional editor.

We spoke with someone close to the situation who was on the call this morning who told us that “all of the local editors I know were terminated.”

Patch did not have any comment. It is unknown what will happen to the existing sites. Some speculate that they will remain in a purely aggregated form.

The latest round of layoffs was first reported by Jim Romenesko earlier this morning.

You can listen to a recording of the termination here.
