Business Spotlight: Medifast Weight Loss Centers

100_0631New Year’s is over and if you are like many, you made a resolution to lose weight.  It’s not an easy task for sure, but with some commitment, you can safely drop a lot (or a little) of weight in time for the summer.

Medifast staffs the local office with three counselors who work with you to achieve your goals and guide you to a change in your eating lifestyle. No one ever looks to lose weight only to put it back on, so Medifast is there for you. The Medifast program consists of three distinct steps or phases.

Step 1

When you combine their foods (mostly pre-packaged MRE type meals, granola-ish bars and shakes), and a daily reasonable meal, the pounds start to come off. The duration of this period is based on the amount of weight you want to lose.

Step 2

The maintenance mode is cutting back on the Medifast meals and replacing them with reasonable meals supplemented with the Medifast meals as snacks. This phase is designed to make sure that you are adjusting to the new eating lifestyle.

Step 3

The final step is completing the program and being able to eat the reasonable meals on your own without any of the Medifast foods. During this period, they want to see that your weight loss is maintained and that you are not gravitating towards putting the weight back on.

Once complete, you will have dropped the weight and been able to keep it off.

Exercise is, of course, recommended with the program and it can be as casual or as rigorous as your body will allow.  When you have a setback, a counselor will work with you to identify the culprit (maybe it is that plate of wings at Acme Bar & Grill), or Aunt Martha’s famous lasagna recipe.

There are restrictions of course–carbs and alcohol are not recommended for best results, but the staff is realistic. According to center manager Tiarra Alexander, “for the best results, stick  100% to the program. But, we also realize that people need to have a life; so, when someone slips, it is not critical, we just work with them to get them back on track.”

The program involves scheduled appointments and “weigh-ins” with a monthly body analysis by a computer. Your progress is tracked each step of the way and most people see progress almost immediately.  Alexander said,”most people will lose between 2 and 5 pounds per week the first month, and then it drops a little to an average of 1 to 2 pounds per week.” Of course, your results may vary.

Diets In Review ranked Medifast as the 3rd most popular diet program for 2013 behind Jillian Michaels and Skinny Fiber. It beat out most of the other mainstream weight loss programs such as Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.

If you are looking to drop a few, stop by the local center–they are located not far from Chuck E. Cheese’s and Buffalo Wild Wings (go figure), and speak with a counselor, ask for a sample of the food and scope out their hallway wall filled with photos of local people who have lost a lot of weight. Your free consultation will only cost you about 30 minutes of time and can be made online.
