Mayor Michael J. Pantelides announced that Jon Arason will be leaving the City as the Director of Planning and Zoning, effective immediately.
“I am grateful for all that Mr. Arason has done for the City and its residents over the past 27 years,” Mayor Pantelides said. “I know change is difficult, but I believe changes are necessary to thoroughly review the department and its policies and procedures. I wish Jon much success in his future endeavors.”
“Jon is an outstanding professional who has left a tremendous legacy in the City of Annapolis with projects such as Acton’s Landing, to name just one,” City Manager Michael Mallinoff said.
Mr. Arason came to the City in June of 1987 as the Chief of Comprehensive Planning. He was promoted to Deputy Director in 1989 and became Director in 1996.
Sally Nash, the Chief of Comprehensive Planning, has been named Acting Director and Cynthia Gudenius, Planner, will be Acting Deputy Director. A national search for a replacement is underway.
