Annapolis To Lose Two Longtime Stores In January

out of businessCORRECTION:  The Annapolis Economic Development Corporation has advised that there are only 12 vacancies on Main Street currently.  We mis-interpreted the search engine on their site.  We regret the error. Note: the search engine displays ALL properties no matter if they are available or not. If the property shows “0 sf” that property is not available.

Come January, Main Street in Annapolis will have two more vacancies. Eye On Annapolis has learned that Creative Impressions and Peppers will both be shuttering their doors in January 2014.

Employees of Creative Impressions were given the news several weeks ago and have been quietly telling their customers of the impending closing. The store, specializing in framed artwork and prints has been a fixture on Main Street since at least 1996. According to their website, they have been in business 29 years.

In an email sent to City and Economic Development officials last weekend, Stewart Cohen, owner of Peppers advised that the Main Street store was simply not profitable and they would be closing the store in early January.  Peppers is a small retail outlet for a larger firm (www.armedforcesgear.com) that specializes graphic t-shirts and clothing. In addition, they have an agreement with the USNA to handle merchandise sales for the Academy both online and at the stadium.  According to the email, “Over the last several years our on-line business as well the USNA sporting events continue to be very profitable but unfortunately our downtown store has not.” Peppers has been located at the corner of Gorman and Main Streets for 37 years.

According to the Annapolis Economic Development website, there are currently 60 12 (see correction note above) vacancies on Main Street. With these two it will be 62 14 (see correction note above).
