On December 29th 2013, a concerned citizen responded to the Northern District Police Station with information about thefts of property from vehicles towed by Schaefer’s Towing.

These thefts were alleged to have occurred to vehicles towed by Schaefer’s Towing, 4700 Blk Belle Grove Rd., as it was acting as an authorized tow provider on the behalf of the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The vehicles involved were towed for various reasons and secured on the private property of Schaefer’s Towing.

Based upon the subsequent investigation and upon the execution of multiple search warrants, items believed to have been stolen from towed vehicles were located and recovered.

As a result, the owner of Schaefer’s Towing, Matthew Schaefer, was arrested and charged with theft and related offenses.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department is currently working with The Anne Arundel County Office of Law for further guidance in the contractual situation with Schaefer’s Towing. The County Police Department has removed Schaefer’s Towing from its tow rotation list.
