AHS Presents Pride And Prejudice

Pride and preAnnapolis High School Drama Company presents Pride and Prejudice on November 15-16 at 7pm and November 17 at 2pm in the Annapolis High School auditorium located at 2700 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD. This adaptation of the Jane Austen novel will not be set in the 19th century but in the 1920s. The Annapolis Drama Company has found that the transition from the early 1800s to the 1920s has proven to be seamless.

“Our production is reminiscent of Downtown Abbey with a Gatsby flair” said Andrew Parr, AHS Theater Arts Teacher and the director of the current production. “This tale of love, self-respect, and pride has demonstrated survival through the ages, and it only seems right to truly show the audience how timeless and relevant it is today.”

The 20-member high school cast has been rehearsing their lines since the beginning of October and learning the Foxtrot, Waltz and Charleston for the many party scenes.

“The show with its costumes, hairstyles and music has been updated and modernized but the language still works in this time frame. It is fresh without disrupting the story” said Megan Cramer Davis, AHS Social Studies Teacher and co-director.

This is an all-hands-on-deck affair with students working on sets, lighting and sound, tech needs as well as costume design and props for this updated period piece.

During the Saturday, November 16, 7pm performance, area high school students trained as critics through The Cappies Critics and Awards Program will attend the AHS production and write reviews of the performances. These reviews will be instrumental in the Drama Company’s eligibility and ultimate nomination for the 2013-14 school year awards. The awards will be announced at The Cappies Gala in the Spring of 2014 at the Hippodrome in Baltimore where theater productions from high schools in Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Anne Arundel, and Southern Harford Counties as well as Baltimore City will compete in various categories similar to The Tony Awards.

Tickets for Annapolis High School Drama Company’s production of Pride and Prejudice are sold in advance or at the door: $10/adults, $5/students and senior citizens.
