On November 12, 2013, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the area of Shadyside Road near Dent Road in Shadyside for the report of a subject impersonating a police officer.
The male victim reported that he was pulled over by a male suspect driving a tan Chevrolet Caprice car resembling a police vehicle. The victim said the suspect turned on lights mounted in the vehicle to get him to pull over. The victim said the suspect got out of the Chevrolet and approached the victim’s car. The victim said the suspect told him he had pulled him over for speeding. The victim then requested credentials and became suspicious of the suspect since he was not wearing a uniform or displaying a badge or credentials. The victim then drove away and contacted the police about the incident.
Officers checked the area for the tan Chevrolet Caprice and located it parked in the driveway of a residence in 1200 block of Steamboat Road in Shadyside. The Caprice had emergency lights mounted inside the vehicle and antennas mounted on it making it resemble a police vehicle. Officers made contact with the owner of the Caprice, who matched the description of the suspect given by the victim. The owner of the vehicle was positively identified as the suspect who had pulled the victim over. The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with several traffic violations as well as criminal charges for Impersonating a Police Officer and False Imprisonment.
