This Weekend: Brews By The Bay

beerThe first annual Brews by the Bay will feature tastings from 13 beers from the Annapolis Homebrew Club.   Scheduled for Sunday, October 20th from 1 – 5p.m., the tastings, which include a commemorative glass, will showcase a diverse and creative selection of ales including a Summertime Blonde, accented with fresh lemon zest and lemon verbena, Old Bay India Pale Ale, spiced with Old Bay seasoning and aged on bourbon flavored American Oak, and Peppermint Patty Pour, a Belgian ale flavored with peppermint and dark chocolate.  The event will take place at the Annapolis Maritime Museum in Eastport with the incomparable backdrop of the Chesapeake Bay and Back Creek.

These artisanal craft beers are the creation of the Annapolis Homebrew Club, an 18-month-old organization whose members have a passion for beer.   While Americans have been brewing beer in their homes since colonial times—both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were home brewers, there has been a recent explosion of interest in the hobby across the country.  For those interested in taking up the sideline, demonstrations with homebrew equipment will take place and the brewers, who will all be in attendance, love nothing more than to talk about their craft and sharing the end result. Attendees will be invited to vote for the “People’s Choice”.

Pairing the beer with the ‘best pizza in town” according to General Manager, Luigi Russo of Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen will make for a palette pleasing afternoon.

Live entertainment will include Mike Heuer, an up and coming rhythm and blues artist.  Football will be airing in the Museum Exhibit area.

Tickets are $30, ($25 for Museum members), are available at www.amaritime.org and include:

●     Tastings

●     Commemorative glass

●     Pizza by Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen

●     Live Entertainment

●     Proceeds from the event benefit the Annapolis Maritime Museum Oyster Education Program

Additional craft beer will be available for purchase from a variety of excellent commercial distributors.

The Brews by the Bay event is perfectly timed since Governor O’Malley, proclaimed Maryland Beer Month, from October 2nd through November 2nd, 2013.  Maryland Beer Month is a celebration of beer brewed in the great state of Maryland.
