Rockbridge Academy Veteran’s Day Program

image-1Rockbridge Academy‘s Annual Veterans Day program will be held on Monday, November 11, 2013.  This event will be attended by many guests including: locally elected officials, Rotarians, representatives from local VFW and American Legion posts, Veteran parents & grandparents.

This annual patriotic event is designed to honor those who have served our nation in the military services and serves as a unique way to inspire students to appreciate the service and sacrifice of our country’s veterans.   The ceremony will be from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church sanctuary located at 921 Generals Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.

The keynote speaker is Vice Admiral John Lockard, USN (Retired), a Vietnam War veteran and a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He is also a proud Rockbridge Academy grandparent.

Elected officials attending:  Senator Edward R. Reilly, Councilman Jerry Walker – District 7, and Delegate Cathy Vitale, Esq.   Please note that other elected officials are likely to attend as well.

The event will also include two special presentations by Rockbridge VFW Voice of Democracy Essay contestants as well as performances by the upper school’s choir, Kantorei.  We will conclude with a graveside wreath laying ceremony at Baldwin Cemetery as a symbolic gesture on behalf of all veterans.  This year the school will honor Veteran Roy Moore Winton (1912-1981).  A bagpipe procession and taps will be played during the wreath laying ceremony.
