Today, Anne Arundel County Police Department will be promoting three officers from the Southern District.
Sgt. John Gilmer began his law enforcement career with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department in October of 1995 after completing nearly 2 years as a Police Cadet.
In October of 1998 Sgt. Gilmer transferred to the Anne Arundel County Police Department as a lateral officer. He was assigned to Southern District. During his tenure at Southern District he received numerous awards to include the Lions Club Officer of the Year award.
He was promoted to Sergeant in September of 2007 and after approximately 6 months as a Patrol Supervisor he became the police department’s primary Public Information Officer. Sgt. Gilmer spent approximately 1 ½ years as Public Information Officer before going back to the Patrol Services Bureau. During this tenure, he routinely was assigned as the Acting Lieutenant of his Platoon.
In June of 2012 Sgt. Gilmer became the supervisor of the Vice, Asset Forfeiture and Prescription Fraud Unit. He remained in that position until being appointed as the Acting Platoon Commander on Southern District’s Platoon One.
Sgt. Gilmer holds a number of specialized training certificates to include being certified as an Accident Reconstruction Specialist. He is a graduate of the Prince George’s County Police Department’s SWAT School Session 23 and is nearing completion of his degree in Criminal Justice. Effective October 28, 2013 Sgt. John Gilmer is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
Cpl. Brian Carney was inspired by the tragic events of September 11th and, opted to leave a career in fire-rescue service and protect his country by serving in law enforcement. In February 2002 Brian joined the Baltimore city police department where he worked in patrol, community services and the operations unit flex squad. During his time with bpd, Brian received several departmental commendations and a lifesaving award.
In 2005, Brian was hired by the Anne Arundel county police department. During his career with the department, he worked in western district patrol, CID child abuse unit, homicide unit active case squad, the eastern district tactical patrol unit and the intelligence unit. While assigned to these units, Brian received several departmental commendations, detective of the year and was nominated as the Baltimore sun officer of the year.
Brian has served as acting sergeant of the tactical patrol unit and intelligence unit where he successfully oversaw complex criminal investigations. Brian currently serves on the conflict negotiation team and has been trained by the FBI as a negotiator.
Brian has received specialized training in interview/interrogation, forensic interviews of children, domestic and international terrorism, gang investigations, intelligence unit operations and he is a graduate from the Francis Glessner lee homicide school. Effective October 28, 2013 Cpl. Brian Carney is promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Cpl. Casey Stidham began his law enforcement career with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in August of 2004. He was assigned Eastern District shift work and midnights. He was later assigned to the Eastern District Tactical Patrol Unit before being assigned to the Special Operations Section, Quick Response Team.
Cpl. Stidham has received many honors including being named Eastern District Officer of the Year, American Legion Officer of the Year and a Department Commendation.
Cpl. Stidham is a Certified Maryland General Instructor among numerous other certifications.
He earned his Bachelors of Science: Criminal Justice & Business Administration from Towson University in 2002. Effective October 28, 2013 Cpl. Casey Stidham is promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
