Dr. Dawn Lindsay wants to create a synergy at Anne Arundel Community College that stimulates innovation and collaboration to continue the college’s successes. Dr. Lindsay spoke of her vision for the college as she was installed in an inauguration ceremony as AACC’s sixth president in 52 years today, Sept. 27, 2013.

The foundation for that synergy will be the transparency, honesty and trust that are hallmarks of the philosophy of servitude leadership, a style she has embraced since she earned her doctorate in organizational leadership at Pepperdine University.

“I say this philosophy will be our compass, because when faced with a decision, I encourage all of us to determine our direction by asking the following questions:

  1. Will this benefit our students?
  2. Will this benefit our community?

The answers to the above questions will guide us. And if the answer is yes, our path will remain steady,” she said.

In delivering her speech, she paid homage to the leadership that came before her, the faculty and staff serving with her and family members who have supported her journey. She also gave indications of ways she will seek guidance, relying on both listening to others and looking to research and data before making decisions.

She also emphasized a continued push for innovation, for which AACC is known. Citing a recent presentation at the League for Innovation in the Community College, she outlined four essential components of successful innovation: “We must ensure that our programs are sustainable over time; that we are accountable to our stakeholders for the decisions we make; that we deliver value; and, that we remain true to our mission with our commitment to learning at its core.”

As president of the college, Dr. Lindsay leads a nationally recognized, public institution and the largest single-campus community college in Maryland, serving nearly 52,000 students annually credit and noncredit programs. AACC offers national and regional studies leading to a degree, certificate, industry credential, transfer to a four-year institution or career enhancement, personal enrichment and lifelong learning.
