The Eastport Gallery To Feature Work Of Celia Pearson

Celia Pearson 300 dpiThe Eastport Gallery will feature 18 new works by noted Annapolis photographer Celia Pearson in an exhibit that opens on Friday, October 4.  The gallery, located at 419 Fourth Street in Eastport, will host a reception to showcase Pearson’s works on Friday, October 18 from 6:30 until 9 p.m.  The reception is free and open to the public.

The exhibit, “A Door Opens,” goes beyond the usual bounds of photography, as Pearson continues to explore photomontages with her well-known attention to detail.  The exhibit will be on display at the gallery through Sunday, November 17.  Home to the renowned Marion Warren photography collection, the gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.

“Celia Pearson continues to mesmerize and to delight,” said Joanie Surette, owner of The Eastport Gallery.  “She invites us to see the world in a new and imaginative way, reveling in the small things and creating a remarkable sense of wonder in her images and photomontages.”

“I love these bits of life for their own sakes and, as I study them, they are my way in.  There is a door that opens to something for which I have no name but which I recognize – a mysterious and compelling thread that runs through all that is,” said Pearson.  “I am thrilled to introduce this new work and feel honored that it is being shown at The Eastport Gallery.”

This upcoming exhibit continues an exploration that began with her last solo exhibit in 2010 in the Chaney Gallery of the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.  That exhibit, “Layerings: A Glimpse of Southeast Asia,” won rave reviews for its creativity and its use of unique printing techniques and materials.

Pearson has been a well-known fine art and assignment photographer for more than three decades.  Mastering medium and large format film cameras, as well as traditional color and black-and-white printing, she earned a national reputation for her images capturing interiors, architecture and gardens.  She is widely known as the photographer for the book Pure Sea Glass.

Pearson now devotes herself to her fine art work.  For some time, this artist has exchanged film for pixels, although she asserts that her endeavors are about seeing, much more than about the gear.  Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums in Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland, Florida, Maine and Washington, D.C.  In addition to being in private and public collections, Pearson’s prints are in the permanent collections of the Academy Art Museum, The New Bedford Museum of Glass, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.
