St. John’s Lecture On Declaration Of Independence

St. Johns COllegeSt. John’s College tutor David Townsend will give a lecture titled “The Declaration of Independence: Is That Philosophy, or Did You Make It Up Yourself?” at St. John’s College. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Friday, September 13 at 8 p.m.

Townsend received his PhD from Harvard and his JD from Yale Law School.  He taught at the Cambridge Free School from 1970 to 1972. Townsend was a tutor at St. John’s College in Santa Fe from 1974 to 1984 at which time he joined the faculty at the Annapolis campus. Since 2000, he has served as senior advisor for seminars and as a moderator for the Aspen Institute.
