O’Malley Announces $5.5M In Education Grants. Gov. Martin O’Malley announced Wednesday $5.5 million in grants to boost digital learning and to help high school students earn college credit. The governor made the announcement in Annapolis with State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery. Six Maryland school systems are receiving a total of $3.5 million from the Digital Learning Innovation Fund to help pay for initiatives such as moving from textbooks to iPads and to use technology to better present content in a more personalized way to benefit students.

Police: Pair Robbed Of Cellphones In Glen Burnie.  Two people were robbed of their cellphone in Glen Burnie, Anne Arundel County police said. Officers were called to the area of 1st Avenue and Marley Neck Boulevard for a robbery around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. The victims, a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, told police they were walking in the area when two men approached them. One of them produced a handgun and demanded money, police said.

Rabid Raccoon Found In Annapolis Park. Anne Arundel County health officials say a rabid raccoon has been found in an Annapolis park. The Department of Health said Tuesday that the raccoon had been found Sept. 12 at the Quiet Waters Park Visitor Center. The animal tested positive for rabies. Officials say anyone who came in contact with the animal should call the health department. Anyone whose pet was bitten or scratched by a raccoon is asked to call animal control.

Authorities Look For Crownsville Bank Robber.  Anne Arundel County police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who robbed a bank in Crownsville. Officers were called to the Bank of Glen Burnie at 1221 Generals Highway for a bank robbery around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the robber approached the teller’s counter, displayed a note announcing a bank robbery, took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled.
