Great Harvest To Talk Like A Pirate

GreatHarvestArgh! The Great Harvest Bakery in Annapolis is celebrating “International Talk Like a Pirate Day” for the third year in a row, and it is encouraging area citizens to get in on the fun. Any customer that comes to the bakery on Sept. 19, dressed in pirate attire and speaking in “pirate talk” (argh, it’s time to walk the plank.you get the drift) will receive a free cookie of their choice.

“This is such a unique and fun celebration, and last year, we had quite a few customers come into the bakery in their best pirate garb,” says Pam Storm, the bakery’s owner.

The festivity was created by John Baur and Mark Summers, two friends from Albany, Oregon, and it even has its own website www.talklikeapirate.com. If customers are worried because they don’t speak “Pirate”, simply visit the website’s pirate talk translator: www.talklikeapirate.com/translator.html.

During the pirate invasion, a few of the regular menu items have been “kidnapped” and replaced by more piratey fare. Pirate Day specials will include Bluebeard Muffins, Blackbeard’s Sword Bread, Captain Arg-tichoke Bread, and you can’t have pirates without serving Hot Buttered Rum Cake.

The Annapolis bakery recently celebrated its five year anniversary commemorating five years of baking in Annapolis. Owners Thomas and Pam Storm, long-time residents of Annapolis, offer a wide range of fresh-baked, handcrafted whole grain breads such as Honey Whole Wheat, High Five Fiber, and Dakota. Other popular specialty breads include Cinnamon Chip, Jalapeno Cornbread, White Cheddar Garlic, Cranberry Crunch, and Apple Cinnamon Swirl.

Great Harvest is also known for made-from-scratch sweets like Chocolate Chip Cookies, Monster Cookies, Caramel Apple Scones, Spinach and Cheese Scones, Pumpkin Muffins, Mimi’s Hot Buns, Savannah Bars, and Blondies.

Great Harvest Bread Co. is located at 208 Ridgely Ave. and is open Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m.- 6 p.m., and Saturday from 6:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. For more information, visit their website at www.greatharvestannapolis.com.
