Car Crashes Into Sprint Store In Annapolis

On September 9, 2013, at approximately 3:24 p.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the Sprint Store located in the 2300 block of Forest Drive in Annapolis for a traffic accident.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that a silver 2004 Mazda just crashed into the store, traveled through the front glass windows, continued to travel until it struck the front counter and came to a stop. When the vehicle entered the store, it struck a customer, a 26-year-old male from the Glen Burnie area, who was taken to Shock Trauma for a head injury. An employee of the store, a 45-year-old female from the Baltimore Area was struck by debris and was transported to Anne Arundel County Medical Center with minor injuries. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department declared that the store sustained minor structural damage. The driver of the Mazda indicated that his brakes failed, causing him to crash into the store.

The brakes on the Mazda were examined and found to be operating properly. The driver of the Mazda, Juan C Ruiz Luengas, 21, of 432 captains Circle #T4 in Annapolis, Maryland, was charged with the following traffic charges: Driving motor vehicle on the highway without required license and authorization, Driving a vehicle in violation of restricted license requirement, Failure of an individual driving on the highway to display license to uniformed police on demand and Failure to control vehicle speed on the highway to avoid a collision. The driver of the Mazda was not injured and only possessed a learner’s permit.
