Free Workshops For Those With Chronic Illnesses

healthreportTwo free workshops; “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” and “Living Well with Diabetes” will be offered this Fall by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.  Adults 18 and older are welcome to attend.  Registration is underway now for the six-week workshops.

A chronic condition can be anything from high blood pressure to arthritis, COPD, heart disease, obesity and/or chronic pain.  The “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” workshop teaches participants how to manage the symptoms that go along with a chronic disease such as stress, anxiety, fatigue and pain.  This workshop also focuses on appropriate exercise techniques, as well as nutrition, medication usage and how to communicate more effectively with physicians. This workshop teaches participants how to regain control of their lives.

The “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” workshop will take place at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, and Glen Lutheran Church.  The Anne Arundel Medical Center course will be held in the Health Sciences Pavilion, 2000 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD on Wednesday afternoons beginning October 9.  Classes will be held October 9, 16, 23, 30, November 6 & November 13 from 1 – 3:30 pm.  The Baltimore Washington Medical Center course will be held from 1 – 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, September 26 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.  The Glen Lutheran Church course will be held from 6 – 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, September 25 at the Glen Lutheran Church in Glen Burnie, Maryland.  This workshop is being sponsored by Glen Lutheran Church and Glen Gardens Community Group.  Class size is limited to 20 individuals.  A free, 380 page textbook is included.  Participants are expected to attend all six sessions.

“Living Well with Diabetes” is appropriate for participants with pre-diabetes, Type 1 diabetes or Type 2 diabetes.  This program teaches participants how to manage their blood sugar levels and provides information about reading nutrition labels, counting carbohydrates, appropriate exercise, and symptoms associated with both high and low blood sugar levels.

The “Living Well with Diabetes” workshop will be held at Anne Arundel Medical Center in the Health Sciences Pavilion, 2000 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD on Tuesday mornings beginning October 8.  Classes will be held October 8, 15, 22, 29, November 5 & November 12 from 9:30 am to 12 noon.
