Last week, Maryland Live! Casino and Anne Arundel County awarded $20 million in local impact grants for fiscal year 2014 to various grant recipients as recommended by the Local Development Council (LDC), which helps to manage the allocation of county gaming tax revenue to local organizations.
Joe Weinberg, Managing Partner of The Cordish Companies, Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman, and Mike Caruthers, LDC Chairman, officially presented the $20 million in local impact grants to various recipients at a ceremony at Maryland Live! Casino.
The $20 Million in Local Impact Grant Recipients for Fiscal Year 2014 include:
· Anne Arundel County Fire Department $7,000,000
· Anne Arundel Community College $3,700,000
· Meade High School $3,000,000
· Anne Arundel County Police Department $2,700,000
· People’s Community Health Centers $1,900,000
(Combined FY 2013 grant of $1.4 million; FY 2014 of $500,000)
· Transportation/Public Safety Funds to be Allocated $1,500,000
· Jessup Elementary School $600,000
· Anne Arundel County Public Library – Provinces Branch $500,000
· Community Support Grants $250,000
(Deadline for FY 2014 grant applications is October 31, 2013)
· BWI Partnership $150,000
· Anne Arundel Workforce Development $100,000
Local officials in attendance to take part in the grant presentations, as well as accept grants on behalf of their various organizations included, Senator James “Ed” DeGrange, Sr.; Michael Caruthers, Chairman of the Local Development Council; Suzanne Bates-Crandall, Manager of Community Relations & Business Development, People’s Community Health Centers; Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis; John Yore, Principal, Meade High School; Dr. Dawn Lindsay, President of Anne Arundel Community College; and Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Michael E. Cox, Jr.

The Local Development Council was established in Anne Arundel County after the opening of Maryland Live! Casino on June 6, 2012. Appointed by the County Executive, the Local Development Council consists of 15 members to serve and advise the County on recommendations for the distribution and expenditure of revenues raised at Maryland Live! Casino through local impact grants.
Community based organizations and nonprofit groups located generally within a three mile radius of Maryland Live! Casino are eligible to apply for a local impact grant.
