PrintIn September your summer activities begin to wind down as you realize that vacations are over and the daylight hours are getting shorter even though the thermometer is still reading high temperatures! But wait, summer can’t end before we all celebrate one more landmark holiday: Labor Day! And this year, Annapolis’ First Sunday Art Festival falls right before Labor Day on September 1st. If you are in or near Annapolis, plan on making this outdoor, fun art festival part of your holiday plans.

First Sunday is a festival that celebrates many forms of art – with live music, entertainment, and over 100 booths of art, jewelry, house wares, accessories and so much more. It is a fun-filled, outdoor, free, family affair for all ages. And since West Street is closed to cars from Church Circle to Calvert Street during the festival, several restaurants become outdoor cafes with perfect seating to watch the fun and people go by! The festival begins at noon and goes until 5:00 p.m. – a full day of fun for everyone in your family.

Live Entertainment on West Street …

Studio 180 — will perform aerial dance routines from noon to 5:00 p.m. in Stan and Joe’s side lot. This is a studio of many dance disciplines from ballet and tap to aerial.

Darden Purcell Quartet – will perform from Noon – 1:30 p.m. in Wiseman Park. Playing swinging standards, bossa novas and Great American Songbook repertoire!

Jazz Band Masterclass, with Jeff Antoniuk– will play from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. in Wiseman Park. Saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk is a jazz musician and composer.

Around the Corner in Whitmore Park:

Melissa Cox Trio – From Celtic Fusion to Trip Folk, World to acoustic electronic, rock to classical choir, Melissa Cox is an old soul with a new sound – from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Join the fun and festivities on September 1st for Annapolis’ First Sunday Arts Festival. Mark your calendars for the final two First Art Festivals: October 6 on West & Calvert; and the ever-popular Holiday Arts Sale at Maryland Hall on November 3!
