Baysox Win Pitcher’s Duel

Baysox 2013IMG_0012Behind a strong pitching performance from Jake Pettit, the Bowie Baysox (57-57) topped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (54-59) 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The Fisher Cats struck first in the bottom of the second inning.  With one out Kevin Nolan singled and then scored on a double by A.J. Jimenez to make the score 1-0.

In the top of the third the Baysox answered right back.  Garabez Rosa led off with a single.  Brian Ward followed with an RBI double to tie up the game.  Then with two outs Niuman Romero hit an RBI single to make the score 2-1.

Jake Pettit picked up the win going eight strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Marcus Stroman was strong for the second straight outing against the Baysox, but picked up the tough luck loss.  He went seven innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Daniel McCutchen finished off the game with a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save with the Baysox.
