Walk To End Alzheimer’s

AlzheimersThe Alzheimer’s Association invites the community to help reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Anne Arundel Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Saturday, Oct. 19 (rain or shine), at Susan  Campbell Park (1 Dock St.) Annapolis.

Hosted by the Greater Maryland Chapter, the annual event will raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease, which is a growing epidemic and now the 6th leading cause of death.

“Everyone is at risk for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Cass Naugle, executive director, Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter. “If everyone does something little, like participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, it could add up to better support today and a breakthrough in your lifetime. And that would be BIG.”

Registration starts at 9 a.m., when participants can enjoy light refreshments from Panera Bread, Giant Food and Baltimore Coffee and Tea; live music and entertainment for the whole family, including a children’s play area and face painting. Additionally, walkers can participate in a special tribute ceremony to honor  their loved ones by placing pinwheel flowers decorated with the names of their loved ones in the Promise Garden.

Everyone is encouraged to stay after the Walk for closing remarks, including the total amount of funds raised for Alzheimer’s research, care and support. They also can learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, the Alzheimer’s Association’s programs and services, and how to get involved with this critical cause: from advocacy opportunities, to the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’sis the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Since 1989, Americans who have participated have raised more than $265 million. Last year’s events in Maryland drew nearly 5,000 walkers and raised over $780,000.

Participants are encouraged to register early as teams or individually. Admission is free, but those who raise at least $100 will receive a Walk to End Alzheimer’s T-shirt.
