Another Free Concert At Maryland Hall

Joe Keyes, Bloomer BandEnjoy a free outdoor concert on the labyrinth featuring Joe Keyes & The Late Bloomer Band at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Thursday, July 25 at 6 pm.  Part of the Sachs Memorial Summer Concert Series, the performance takes place on Maryland Hall’s front lawn, so bring your lawn chair, blanket, and a picnic basket and settle in for a relaxing evening of music on the labyrinth.

Joe Keyes is equal parts front man, poet and band conductor. In 2009, the Freehold, NJ native put together a concoction of Baltimore-area musicians to form The Late Bloomer Band. The band takes audiences back to the days of Miles Davis and early P-Funk, when big bands were led by strong forces of individuals. The band’s brand of live improvisation and musical sophistication presents a different experience at every show.

While Keyes draws inspiration from musical mentors Gil Scott-Heron and Sun Ra, The Late Bloomer Band brings a modern interpretation to funk, jazz, rock and a variety of other genres.

The Late Bloomer Band members, who are in their mid-20s, help keep 52-year-old Keyes young. They come from locally established bands such as The Rez, Eat it Raw, Let The Monkey Go and At The Zoo. Having grown together musically, the band’s polished tightness has landed collaborations with George Clinton and members of Parliament/Funkadelic as well as live shows featuring original Fishbone members Angelo “Dr. Madd Vibe” Moore and Norwood Fisher.

The concert is free and no tickets are required.  In case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors.

The Sachs Memorial Summer Concert Series is underwritten in part by Deborah Love in memory of her parents Joe and Jackie Sachs. Joe Sachs was one of the founders of Maryland Hall.

The 2013 Sachs Memorial Summer Concert Series will conclude on Thursday, August 22 at 6 pm with Mary Ann Redmond.
