Samaritan House Celebration Highlights Expansion Progress

sign with flowersOver 400 friends and supporters enjoyed an afternoon of food and fun at the annual Samaritan House picnic. The eight-acre campus of the Samaritan House, a residential care facility for men suffering from alcohol and drug addiction located just off Forest Drive in Annapolis, was open to former and current clients, families and community members on Sunday, June 9, for a day of celebration.

Bands played on an outdoor stage throughout the afternoon, while guests enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue and traditional picnic fare.  Special attractions included a dunking booth, basketball tournament, face painting and a visit from The Reptile Man, who set up a mini-petting zoo with a wide variety of rescued animals.

This year’s event also highlighted growth plans for the Samaritan House, the only certified residential care facility in the Annapolis area exclusively for men.  In October 2012, the Board of Directors launched a Campus of Recovery fundraising campaign to double the capacity for transitional housing and add space for out-patient counseling and support activities.

Samaritan House board president Kirk Noonan said approval for the site plan and grading permit is in the final stages.  In tandem with construction plans, Samaritan House is also moving forward with expansion of treatment offerings, recently receiving certification for outpatient services.

“The Samaritan House has been helping men suffering from the ravages of addiction of over 40 years,” Noonan said.  “The Campus of Recovery expansion will provide services desperately needed in the community and set the stage for growth and progress for the next 40 years.”
