Annapolis native, Mike Pantelides will formally announce his candidacy for Mayor of Annapolis on June 27th. Pantelides says” I am running for Mayor to restore and improve our great city. We are facing challenges such as unfunded health and pension programs, serious debt and failing infrastructure that could bankrupt Annapolis if we do not make a change in leadership.”
Pantelides is proposing no new taxes and an immediate freeze on hiring until a thorough review of each department is completed.
“I will be a Mayor who guides the city with fiscal discipline, environmental security, responsible growth and above all putting our citizens first,” said Pantelides.
As President of the Germantown Homewood Civic Association and Captain of the Neighborhood Watch, Pantelides has firsthand experience into challenges citizens are facing with crime and the delivery of services.
Pantelides wants to strengthen environmental safeguards for Annapolis forests and increase storm water protection for streams and rivers. Pantelides notes” Protection of our environment requires policies that leave our land and rivers better than we found them”.
Currently, Pantelides works as a Government Relations Executive at Vocus, Inc. where he assists companies and universities in monitoring legislation, managing Political Action Committees and maintaining a professional online advocacy website.
Pantelides serves on the Board of Directors for the 21St Century Education Foundation, an organization that works towards pairing the needs of the schools within Anne Arundel County with surrounding resources.
Pantelides holds a Bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and has a special interest in Ecosystem Restoration and Ecological Principles and Environmental Assessment.
In addition to memberships in the Sierra Club and Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Pantelides is a member of the Annapolis Jaycees and an Eagle Scout.
