Don’t Swim At These Beaches. The Anne Arundel County Health Department is warning swimmers to stay out of the water at three beaches after tests show high bacteria levels. Officials said Monday not to go in the water at the Beverly Beach on the Chesapeake Bay near Mayo, London Towne at Arundel Road Beach on the South River in Edgewater and Upper Magothy Beach on the Magothy River in Severna Park. High bacteria readings were found in water samples for two consecutive weeks.
Cat Shot With Arrow Recovering. Police in Anne Arundel County want to know who shot a cat with an arrow in the Davidsonville area. The cat, Xena, was found with an arrow stuck in her and was able to survive what appeared to be a lethal act. Katherine Evans has seen many animal abuse cases in 15 years of animal rescue, but nothing quite like the young female cat that came to her a few days ago. Xena had been shot with a 2-foot long arrow stuck inside her neck after that missed her throat.
Edgewater Teacher Charged With Sexually Abusing Students. Montgomery County police have arrested a teacher they said sexually abused his students at a Silver Spring middle school. Benjamin Robert Cano, 33, of Edgewater, was charged last week with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor and three counts third-degree sex offense. Detectives told The Capital of Annapolis that an official at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School told police that Cano had touched two students inappropriately.
Anne Arundel County Fire Victim Dies From Injuries. Anne Arundel County fire officials said a fire victim has died from his injuries. Firefighters were called from a double-wide mobile home in the 600 block of Sunset Strip in the Brooklyn area around 9:30 a.m. on June 9. Firefighters found a person with 35 percent second- and third-degree burns to both arms and upper torso. The victim, identified as 72-year-old Brice Clements, was transported by ambulance to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore with serious, life-threatening injuries.
