Police Investigating Another Animal Abuse Case

Anne Arundel County Animal Control is seeking information that may help in determining who shot a cat with an arrow in the Davidsonville area. The cat, “Xena”, estimated to be around two years old, resided in the 3000 block of Riva Road.  On Wednesday, June 12, 2013, the owner observed that the cat had been shot with an approximately two foot arrow through her left shoulder. The cat was discovered on the owner’s property. The location of the actual incident and who is responsible for shooting the cat remains unclear.

Xena was scared and unable to be caught initially, but Animal Control was finally able to take her into custody on Friday, June 14, 2013, at approximately 12:00 pm. The owner immediately surrendered custody of Xena with the hopes that she could be saved and found a new home. Upon capture, Animal Control immediately contacted a local rescue group, Rude Ranch Animal Rescue in Harwood, Maryland, to request their assistance in treating and hopefully placing the cat in an appropriate home if she recovers. Rude Ranch Animal Rescue immediately arranged for veterinary care for Xena, who was initially transported to Belair Veterinary Hospital in Bowie, Maryland. Xena was released from the veterinary hospital on Saturday June 15, 2013, and is continuing to recover and make progress at Rude Ranch Animal Rescue.

Animal Control would like to thank Rude Ranch Animal Rescue for their quick response and willingness to help Xena.  Anyone with information that may lead to finding the person(s) responsible for Xena’s condition is asked to contact Anne Arundel County Animal Control at 410-222-8900 or the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610. Anne Arundel County Animal Control would like to remind citizens if they are having an issue with a domestic animal on their property there are humane methods of resolving the issue.
