New Farmer’s Market Coming To Taylor Avenue In Annapolis

Ev_FarmersMarket_panSix new Anne Arundel County based businesses will be selling locally produced goods at the Anne Arundel County’s farmers’ market on Taylor Avenue in Annapolis.  The market located on the DNR parking lot across from the Navy Marine Corps Stadium officially opens on June 6 and will be operate from 3pm to 6pm every Thursday until September 5.

“It’s always good news when local small businesses get opportunities to sell their products and in this case, they’re able to do it through a great community outlet like our farmers’ markets,” said County Executive Laura Neuman. “I welcome these new businesses and look forward to the addition of our first winery thanks to the state’s new off-site permit provision.”

Two of the vendors, Knopp Farms and Schillingers will be selling produce.  Enticement Farms will be selling meat (beef, pork, chicken and lamb) and eggs.  Two other vendors will be selling sweet and savory items; SOCO Artisan Pops makes gourmet ice pops made with local ingredients and Pearl’s Pantry offers baked goods.

Another vendor, Great Frogs Winery, is now able to sell its wine products at the farmers’ market thanks to a new state provision. According to the Maryland Department of Agriculture, effective June 1, 2013, wineries may now apply for a new off-site event permit that allows such vendors to attend any farmers’ market in Maryland, provided the market is listed in the MDA’s Farmers’ Market Directory.  Details on this new permit are available on the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s website, www.mda.maryland.gov

Farmers’ markets continue to be a good opportunity for local agribusiness to market their products directly to consumers.  Anne Arundel County farmers’ markets can typically have as many as 40 vendors participate each season.  New vendors are welcome to participate in the market and should contact the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation’s agriculture business development associate Lisa Barge at (410)222-7410 or by email at [email protected]
