The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has ordered an emergency closing and warns against swimming and other direct water contact for a section of Weems Creek in Annapolis, Maryland. The affected area includes the section of Weems Creek from its headwaters to Rowe Boulevard. The closing is due to a wastewater spill of approximately 120,000 gallons caused by a Jennifer Road force main break that occurred Wednesday afternoon, May 15.
The Department of Health posted signs and the County Department of Public Works cleaned the impacted land area. The waterway closure will remain in effect until further notice. People coming in contact with the affected water are advised to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
