Ft. Meade Furloughs Not As Bad As First Thought. WBAL-TV 11 News has learned that Fort Meade has made adjustments to how automatic defense cuts will affect civilian workers now that Congress has passed a continuing government-funding resolution. At the Anne Arundel County Army post, hundreds of civilian workers will still be furloughed and be forced to take a weekly 20 percent pay cut, but Fort Meade Col. Ed Rothstein, the top commander at the post, told 11 News that the furloughs will be less harsh than first reported.

Senate Passes Gun Control Bill.  Maryland state senators voted 28-19 Thursday evening to pass the House version of sweeping gun control legislation that requires fingerprinting and licensing. Senate President Mike Miller had said the bill would head to the governor’s desk Thursday night. “It’s a far-reaching bill, but at the same time, I supported a number of the amendments the House adopted,” Miller said.

School To Teen: Your Leggings Are Not Appropriate. A Montgomery County teenager told to change her outfit or go home over what has become a popular trend among teenage girls. Laura Woche, a student at Rockville High School, was told that the leggings and shirt she was wearing was not appropriate because the shirt was shorter than fingertip length.

Laurel Officials Offer $10K For Info On Serial Arsonist. Authorities in Laurel are offering a $10,000 reward to help find out who is responsible for setting several fires in and around the city, including at some playgrounds, since January. Police and Prince George’s County fire officials said most of the incidents of arson occurred in March. They’re also trying to see if two fires of an undetermined nature are connected to the arson incidents.
