Anne Arundel Police Chief Under Investigation. Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman said her office is looking into complaints of retaliation against police officers who testified against her predecessor. Councilman James Benoit asked Neuman to investigate complaints that Police Chief Larry Tolliver demoted officers who testified against former County Executive John R. Leopold, who resigned in February following conviction on two counts of misconduct. Leopold appointed Tolliver last summer.

Drugs, Drinking Mean No Prom.  Anne Arundel County school officials have a friendly reminder for its high school seniors that drugs, alcohol and school activities don’t mix. Students caught with illegal substances will be banned from their prom and graduation ceremonies. High school principals sent letters home to parents Wednesday afternoon, and they plan to follow up the same evening with telephone calls to spread a message that bad choices equal dire consequences.

Child Porn Charges Dropped Against Former Teacher.  A former Anne Arundel County teacher no longer faces charges of child pornography. Police said former Broadneck High School teacher Erin Thorne shared sexually explicit photos through text message with a 17-year-old student during the 2010-2011 school year. Officials didn’t explain to 11 News why they dropped the child porn charge, but the 28-year-old Thorne still faces a charge of displaying obscene material to a minor.

Massive Mulch Fire Burns In Upper Marlboro.  Crews battled a massive mulch fire in Prince George’s County Wednesday evening. Firefighters were called to the 2000 block of Ritchie Marlboro Road in Upper Marlboro shortly before 9 p.m. Officials have requested assistance from surrounding jurisdictions as water supply became an issue.
