Plans Made To Enhance Traffic Safety On Bay Bridge. The Maryland Transportation Authority on Thursday announced plans to install added safety measures for two-way traffic operations on the Bay Bridge based on a study the agency made last year. Crews are scheduled to remove and replace rumble strips and pavement markings and add new signs starting as soon as Friday to provide additional visual and physical guides to help drivers stay alert and in their lanes during two-way operations.

Ferndale Man Arrested In Bomb Threat CaseAnne Arundel County police on Thursday said they made an arrest in Ferndale in connection with a Wednesday afternoon bomb threat. Officials said 59-year-old Ronald Smith called the threat into 911, saying, “I’m from Boston and I’m going to blow some more stuff up.” Officers stormed the home in the 1300 block of Broadview Boulevard where Smith admitted placing the call and said the threat was a hoax.

Former Lottery Employee Collected $67K From Stolen Tickets. An Anne Arundel County man has been indicted on accusations that he stole lottery tickets valued at nearly $100,000 from several retailers over the span of four years while he was working for the Maryland Lottery. Attorney General Doug Gansler said Mark Barron Hantske, 59, of Lothian, was charged with several counts of theft.

Five Arrested In Theft Of Cabbies.  Five people have been arrested in connection with two armed robberies of cabbies in Anne Arundel County. Police officers were called to Evelyn Avenue and Hammonds Ferry North in North Linthicum for an armed robbery of a taxi driver at 1:26 a.m. Thursday. The robbers took off in a gray sedan that was parked nearby, police said. At 1:45 a.m., a detective spotted a vehicle fitting that description on Route 648 in Ferndale and conducted a traffic stop, police said.
