First Ever Edgewater Community Day

jpegTwo community businesses have officially announced that on May 19, 2013, the first-ever Edgewater Community Day and Barbecue will take place, to celebrate and give something back to the people of Edgewater that help make our local businesses a success. The event will be held at 196 Mayo Rd., Edgewater, MD, behind Doggy D’tails in the rear parking lot, and will feature food, giveaways, goody bags, special event-only deals at participating businesses, a dog-sport demonstration by Tecla Walton, kids activities and a raffle to support Mid-Atlantic German Shepherd Rescue. Festivities will begin at 11AM and go until 2PM.

The event was conceptualized and organized by Judy Heller, owner of Doggy D’tails, in order bring together the people that support the businesses within the community with an event that will have something for everyone. Doggy D’tails and other local businesses that will be a part of the event wanted to show their appreciation to the people of Edgewater, and the Community Day and Barbecue provides the perfect chance to do that. “Having lived in Edgewater for 17 years, I realized that communities around us had been doing similar events, and it just felt like it was time to finally do something in Edgewater that focuses on giving something back to our neighbors that support our businesses. Everyone that has gotten involved felt the idea was excellent, so we started moving forward with planning. Now we’re getting very excited for May 19,” said Heller.

Also instrumental in getting the event started was Patti Zang, owner and operator of the Edgewater Lawn Doctor since 1985 “When we first opened here, there was nothing around. Now we have everything we need right here in Edgewater; it’s a wonderful community. The only thing missing was a day of thanks and celebration with our neighbors, and now we’ll have that.”

Along with Doggy D’tails, Lawn Doctor, Rita’s Ices, and Classy Findz have joined on as a part of the Edgewater Community Day and Barbecue. Each business will be giving away goodies and coupons with exclusive deals for attendees, and the only way to snag the deals and goodies will be to attend the event.

The Edgewater Community Day and Barbecue is open to everyone, not just Edgewater residents, and even pets are welcome, provided they are leashed and socialized. For any questions about the event please contact Judy Heller via email: [email protected].
