Classical Guitarist And Vocalist Give Master Class And Concert At AACC

Troy King_MediaClassical guitarist Troy King and mezzo soprano Leneida Crawford will give a master class and a concert April 12 and 13 at Anne Arundel Community College.

The master class is free and will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 224. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the Humanities Building Room 112 (the Humanities Little Theater). Tickets are required for the concert and are available at the box office at $15 for the general public; $10 for senior citizens, outside students, AACC faculty and staff, active military, and groups; and $5 for AACC students with ID.

King, a lecturer who teaches classical guitar and guitar ensemble at Towson University, has performed as a soloist and guest artist with orchestras across the country and in guitar festivals around the world. He won first prize at the Fifth Portland Guitar Festival International Guitar Competition and first prizes at the Lamont Chamber Music Competition and the Montpelier Recitalist Competition. King has degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Denver. His major teachers have been John Holmquist and Ricardo Iznaola. Additional instruction includes private study in England with composer/guitarist Gilbert Biberian and participation in dozens of public master classes given by various artists.

Leneida Crawford_MediaCrawford, professor of music and assistant chair for student affairs at Towson, made her New York solo debut at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. She has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the New England Symphonic Ensemble at Carnegie Hall and the National Chorale. Locally, she has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, the Paul Hill Chorale, the Washington Oratorio Society and the Choral Arts Society of Washington. She also has given American song recitals around the world.
