Baysox Rally to Ground Flying Squirrels

BaysoxA night after giving up a five-run lead, the Bowie Baysox (2-4) came from down six runs to beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels (4-2) 8-7 on Tuesday evening.

The Flying Squirrels struck first in the bottom of the second inning.  Mark Minicozzi drew a lead off walk and stole second base.  Then Adam Duvall knocked him in with an RBI single to make the score 1-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Richmond struck for five runs with two outs.  The Flying Squirrels loaded up the bases and then Ryan Lollis, Ehire Adrianza and Joe Panik recorded three straight hits to knock in five runs and give the Squirrels a 6-0 lead.

The Baysox got one run back in the top of the fifth inning when Garabez Rosa hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-1.

In the sixth inning the Baysox cut the lead to one with a four-run inning.  Ty Kelly walked and Lew Ford singled to start the inning.  Caleb Joseph knocked in Kelly with a double off the wall in center.  Then with one out Buck Britton hit a two-run single to knock in two more runs.  Brian Ward capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single that made the score 6-5.

The Baysox took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning.  Joseph drew a lead off walk and Zelous Wheeler singled.  Britton laid down a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position and then Richmond elected to intentionally walk Rosa to load up the bases with one out.  Ward then followed with a bases clearing double to give the Baysox an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Squirrels got a run back to cut the lead to 8-7, but the Baysox would hold on for the win.

Tom Boleska got the victory throwing 3.1 innings without allowing a run and striking out four.

Andy Loomis got the save, giving up a run in two innings with four strikeouts.

The loss went to Edwin Quirarte who allowed two runs in 1.2 innings.
