ASO Season Finale With Mozart And Rachmaninov

mozartThe Annapolis Symphony Orchestra concludes its 2012-2013 season at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, at 8 PM. Under the musical direction of Maestro José-Luis Novo, the ASO will be accompanied by renowned pianist Cornelia Herrmann for these concerts, which will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24, and Sergei Rachmaninov’s Symphony No. 2.

Austrian pianist Cornelia Herrmann is enjoying a growing international reputation that has already brought her appearances throughout the world.  In 2013, her guest appearances include Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nagoya, Tokyo, Washington, Toledo, Hong Kong, Montreal, and Vienna.

Born into a family of musicians in Salzburg, Cornelia Herrmann studied with Imre Rohmann in Salzburg, Noel Flores in Vienna and Ferenc Rados in Budapest, and drew further inspiration from Alexander Lonquich, Murray Perahia, András Schiff, and recently Alfred Brendel.

In 1996 she was the youngest finalist and winner of the International J. S. Bach Competition in Leipzig, and in 1999 gained a special award at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg.  In 2002 she gave her debut at the Salzburg Festival.

Adult tickets start at $25 and student tickets are $10. Tickets for these concerts can be purchased through the ASO website at www.annapolissymphony.org, by calling 410-263-0907, or by stopping by the ASO Box Office in room 204 at Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Monday through Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm.

All concert ticket holders are invited to attend a free and informative pre-concert lecture in the auditorium at 6:45pm before the concert. Led by British pianist and lecturer Dr. Rachel Franklin, these entertaining talks enhance the concert experience by providing historical and insightful perspectives on the music to be played. Lectures are sponsored by Bank of America.

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra features 70 professional musicians who perform a variety of symphonic music for audiences of all ages. Additionally, the non-profit organization provides educational programs through its partnerships with local schools, as well as various other community outreach efforts.
