Baysox Win Wild Extra Inning Game

BaysoxIn a game that featured a combined 24 runs and 35 hits the Bowie Baysox (8-7) scored five unanswered runs over the last three innings to come from behind and beat the Akron Aeros (5-9) 13-11 in 10 innings.

The Baysox got out to the fast start in the top of the first inning.  With one out, Kyle Hudson singled and then Caleb Joseph knocked him in with an RBI double to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, Chun Chen evened up the game with his second home run of the season to make the score 1-1.

The Baysox struck right back in the top of the second inning.  Aaron Baker led off with a single and Luis Martinez walked.  After Cale Iorg struckout, Johnny Reuttiger also walked to load up the bases.  With two outs in the inning, Kyle Hudson gave the Baysox the lead back with an RBI single to make the score 2-1.

In the fourth, the Baysox gave up another big inning.  Carlos Moncrief and Chris Wallace hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning.  The next batter, Ronny Rodriguez, tripled to knock them both in and give the Aeros the lead.  Giovanny Urshela followed with a double to knock in Rodriguez.  Then with two outs, Jose Ramirez hit an RBI single that gave the Aeros a 5-2 lead.

Luis Martinez got one run back for the Baysox in the top of the fifth on an RBI single that scored Britton and cut the lead to 5-3.

The Aeros answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Moncrief hit a solo home run to extend the lead back out to 6-3.

In the seventh inning, the Baysox struck for five runs to take the lead.  Joseph and Buck Britton started things off with back to back home runs to get the Baysox within a run.  With two outs, the Baysox loaded up the bases.  Hudson drew a bases loaded walk to tie up the game and then Ty Kelly hit a two-run single that gave the Baysox an 8-6 lead.

The Aeros answered back with a five-run inning of their own in the bottom of the seventh.  Urshela got the scoring started with his second RBI double of the game to cut the lead to one.  With one out and the bases loaded, Ramirez hit into a fielders choice that allowed a run to score, then on a throwing error a second run scored to give the Aeros the lead.  The next batter, Chen hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to give the Aeros an 11-8 lead.

Britton led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to cut the lead to 11-9.

With two outs in the ninth, Kelly singled to center field and then Joseph tied up the game with his second home run, a two-run shot to make it 11-11.

Xavier Avery gave the Baysox the lead in the 10th inning with a two-out RBI single that scored Garabez Rosa.  They added one more run in the inning on a wild pitch to take a 13-11 lead.

Clay Schrader picked up his third win of the season throwing 2.2 innings and allowing one run on two hits.

Zech Zinicola recorded his third save of the year throwing a scoreless tenth.

The loss went to Brett Brach who threw three innings and allowed four runs on three hits.

Tomorrow in game two of the series RHP Mike Wright (0-0, 7.30) will take on RHP Toru Murata (1-1, 3.09) at 6:35 p.m.

The Baysox will return home on Friday, April 26th when they begin a three-game series with the Harrisburg Senators.  Both Friday and Saturday night will be fireworks nights.
