18, 14 Year-Old Arrested On Weapons Charges And Trespassing At Old Mill High School

folding-knifeOn April 10, 2013, at approximately 8:50 a.m., the School Resource Officer assigned to Old Mill High School located at 600 Patriot Lane in Millersville, Maryland, was alerted to a possible trespasser on school property.

The SRO along with assistance from Eastern District patrol officers began an extensive search of the school and surrounding communities and businesses in an effort to locate the subject. While the search and investigation was active, the SRO was contacted by a school official indicating that the suspect was inside of the high school again, accompanied by a 14-year-old former student. School officials stopped both subjects and the SRO immediately responded to investigate further. The SRO confiscated three knives to include two folding style “Buck” knives along with a martial arts knife after a search of the 18-year-old male suspect’s backpack. Both subjects were taken into custody.

The 14-year-old juvenile was charged on a juvenile citation with Trespassing on School Property and Trespassing on Posted Property while the 18-year-old suspect, identified as Norman Hardy of 2108 North Rosedale Street in Baltimore, Maryland, was charged with the identical charges along with two weapons violations. The initial investigation has revealed that the suspect entered the school near arrival time and made his way into a class while the 14-year-old remained outside. The suspect stayed in the class briefly, left the class, and was later encountered by school officials in the cafeteria area of the school, where they questioned his reasons for being in the school. He subsequently fled through an exit, prompting the school to contact the SRO.

While it remains unclear why the suspect had weapons in his possession, preliminarily it appears that both individuals responded to the school to socialize. Information indicates that the suspect re-entered the school through a door that was propped open near the weight room. How and why that door was open are still under investigation.

The school sent a letter home with students this afternoon advising parents of the situation.
