The Arc To Recognize Exemplary Community Members

ARCThe Arc Central Chesapeake Region, an organization that provides customizable, innovative supports and services to people with developmental disabilities and their families will hold their annual Awards Banquet in honor of staff and community participants and their involvement in improving the lives of those with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Kate Rollason, Executive Director, says, “We are thrilled our staff, members, volunteers, individuals we support and their families as well as the wider community can come together to recognize those exemplary people who make opportunity possible for countless numbers of children and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. It is because of the energy, passion, and hard work of many individuals we are able to make a difference each and every day.”

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region is honored to recognize the following exemplary groups and individuals:

  • Master Hyun Kyu Seo of South River Martial Arts and Jacki Carter of Queen Anne’s County Character Counts for the People First Award which recognizes an individual who has consistently demonstrated activities which promote the advancement of a person’s strengths and abilities, as well as meeting people’s needs.
  • Anne Arundel County Special Education Citizen Advisory Committee (SECAC) for the Democracy Award which recognizes an individual or group who are deeply involved in the democratic process and value the input of both people with disabilities and family members in decision-making, policies and procedures.
  • Tara Kane, the owner of the Maryland Twisters, for the Community Participation Award which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated the highest levels of commitment and work in integrating and including people with developmental disabilities into their home communities
  • Nancy Luttrell, the Vice President of Human Resources at Anne Arundel Medical Center and Lynne Markowitz, the Director of Anne Arundel County Infants and Toddlers Program for the Visionary Leadership Award which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated strong leadership in systems change which advances the core values of The Arc.

The presentation of awards will take place at The Arc’s annual Awards Banquet on March 26th from 6:00-8:30pm at the Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis.  The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s (CCR) Mission is to promote respect, create opportunities and advocate for equal rights for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
