Registration Open For AACC Business Competitions

open-for-businessIf you are a credit or noncredit student at Anne Arundel Community College and have a new business or a good idea for one, you have two opportunities this spring to promote that business.

The Business Plan Competition is sponsored by Capital One Bank, with applications due by March 13. The Elevator Pitch BIG IDEA contest is sponsored by A.J. Properties, with registration and submission due by April 4. To be eligible for either competition, contestants must be students in good standing at AACC. People interested in the competitions who are not current students can register by the competition deadlines for winter or spring noncredit classes or the second eight-week credit session that begins March 25 and be eligible for the competitions.

The Business Management and Entrepreneurial Studies departments see the Business Plan Competition as a way to reward students for excellence in business plan preparation and presentation for a new or existing venture idea. Both credit and noncredit students compete for the opportunity to receive space in the Student Business Incubator as well as cash prizes. In addition, the competition will provide education and networking opportunities for students.

Business Plan Competition finalists will present their business plans on April 25 to a panel of judges consisting of experts from the business, legal, government, and educational communities. For more details, visit http://www.aacc.edu/esi/businessplan.cfm.

Either one student or a team of students can register for the Elevator Pitch BIG IDEA contest. The concept is that most people have only the time it takes to get from the first floor to the sixth floor of an elevator to sell their idea.  Finalists will have two minutes to present their idea on April 18. To get details about what the pitch must contain and see samples of the 2011 pitch competition, visit http://www.aacc.edu/esi/bigidea.cfm. At least 50 percent of a team must be currently enrolled or have completed a credit or noncredit course at AACC since fall 2012.

Students must deliver four presentation copies of their business plans to the Entrepreneurial Studies Institute office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Contenders for the Elevator Pitch BIG IDEA competition must register and submit four copies of their original idea by 4 p.m. Thursday, April 4.  In-person deliveries of both competitions should be made to Room 326 of the Careers Building on the Arnold campus. Both competitions can be mailed to the same address: Stephen Berry, Anne Arundel Community College, 101 College Parkway, Careers Building, Room 320, Arnold, Md. 21012.

For information, call Berry, at 410-777-2363 or email [email protected].
