Anne Arundel County Police Charge 12 Minors, 2 Others In IncidentsAnne Arundel County police said several minors have been charged in three separate incidents at a popular neighborhood hangout in Cape St. Claire, which has also prompted increased police patrols and heightened security at a nearby school. Residents who live near “The Pit” — a place where students congregate after leaving nearby Broadneck High School — at the corner of Chestnut Tree Drive and Southview Drive have complained to police about witnessing large groups of minors loitering who participate in disorderly conduct, destruction to their property, illegal drug use, fights and other criminal behaviors.

Ft. Meade Commander: 900 Likely To Be Furloughed. The commander at Fort Meade is preparing for the effects of sequestration, and he said he’s not happy with the thought of having to send out furlough notices to hundreds of civilians who work at the Anne Arundel County Army post. Col. Edward Rothstein said the sequestration cuts won’t mean more with less; instead, it’ll just be less with less. Rothstein told 11 News that he fully expects to have to announce those furloughs, and he didn’t hold back on his frustration.

Police Look For Man Who Robbed Odenton StoreAnne Arundel County police are looking for an armed robber who struck in Odenton. Officers were called to 7-Eleven store in the 1300 block of Odenton Road around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Store employees told police that a man came into the store, approached the clerk armed with a handgun and demanded money. The robber then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Maryland Senate Passes Gun Control Bill.  A gun-control measure backed by the governor has made it through the state Senate, and supporters said it will make Maryland’s already strong weapons laws some of the toughest in the nation; however, opponents decried the bill as an erosion of Second Amendment rights. The measure, which passed 28 to 19, has a licensing requirement for handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to state police.
