Celebrate Maryland’s heritage on Maryland Day with a complimentary “Gone but not Forgotten” Walking Tour from Annapolis Tours® by Watermark®. The walking tour is a highlighted activity of the 6th Annual Maryland Day Celebration. The free, family friendly tour is specially offered for Maryland Day and takes place Saturday, March 23 at 10:30 a.m. The tour will begin at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock immediately following the official flag raising ceremony.

Watermark is a proud member of the Four Rivers Heritage Area, the host of the Maryland Day Celebration. Heather Skipper, Director of Guide Operations at Watermark says, “Annapolis Tours by Watermark is excited to host this unique tour and take part in the celebration of Maryland’s heritage. Our ‘Gone but Not Forgotten’ walking tour isn’t offered regularly and this stroll through Annapolis’ charming historic district will be led by former Mayor of Annapolis Richard Hillman, known to us as ‘Squire Richard.’ Come join Squire Richard for a fun and very special look into our local past!” Squire Richard will lead the tour in Watermark’s signature colonial period clothing.

The preserved heritage of Annapolis is applauded and celebrated. Nevertheless, in four centuries many changes have been wrought…some good, some bad, and many over which disagreements still prevail. Explore the sites of some of these changes in the historic district and on the grounds of the Naval Academy. The “Gone but not Forgotten” Walking Tour explores interesting pieces of Annapolis history like:

  • Where is the thrice-moved Pinkney-Callahan House?
  • What happened to the home of Francis Scott Key’s sister?
  • What would one have seen just 50 years ago from the steps of the State House?

All of these questions and more are answered in this rarely offered tour. Enjoy reminiscences of bygone days and share some of your own! Photo ID required for ages 16 and older.
