Children’s Theatre Of Annapolis Presents Disney Classic, “The Little Mermaid, Jr.”

Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Dive under the sea into the magical world of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.,” this year’s spring production at Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.

The classic children’s story tells the tale of young mermaid Ariel, who longs to free herself from the water and live on land with her beloved Prince Eric. With the help of the conniving octopus Ursula, Ariel gets her wish – but must give up her prized voice in return. With familiar characters such as her best friend Flounder, the ever-exasperated Sebastian and Ursula’s slippery sidekicks Flotsam and Jetson, plus catchy tunes such as “Under the Sea,” “Part of your World,” and “Kiss the Girl,” CTA’s production of “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

The show stars nearly 40 local children and teens, ranging in ages from eight to 14. Broadneck High student Geneva Croteau plays the role of Ariel, while Colin Snyder, homeschooled, plays opposite as Prince Eric. Evil Ursula is played by Broadneck High School student Ally Baca; Severn River Middle School student Katie Garrity plays pal Flounder; Sam Ellis, homeschooled, performs as Sebastian and Austin Dare of Broadneck High School leads the mer-kingdom as King Triton. Severn River Middle School student Camille White performs as the loopy seagull Scuttle, while Bates student Alaina Groskreutz and Severna Park student Haley West are Flotsam and Jetsam, respectively. “The Little Mermaid, Jr.,” is directed by Jerry Vess, music-directed by Laura Tayman and choreographed by Jason Kimmell.

The musical runs from April 12 to 21 with shows at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. American Sign Language interpretation will be available at the 2 p.m. performance on Saturday, April 13. Purchase your tickets now — they’re expected to sell quickly, particularly for the second weekend of performances. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and kids 12 and under.
