CBT’s Jana Davis named Most Influential

jana_davis_2Dr. Jana Davis of the Chesapeake Bay Trust has been named to The Daily Record’s 2013 list of Influential Marylanders. Dr. Davis is the executive director of the Trust where she oversees its work on watershed restoration, education, outreach, and innovation. Prior to assuming the role of executive director, Davis served at the Trust as the associate executive director and assistant director for programs. She is trained as a marine ecologist, with a B.S. in biology from Yale University and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and has spent her career working at the intersection of science and policy.

The Daily Record created Influential Marylanders in 2006 to honor individuals who have made truly significant contributions in their fields and continue to be regarded as leaders in the State of Maryland.

“We are proud to recognize Dr. Jana Davis as one of The Daily Record’s Influential Marylanders,” says Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of The Daily Record. “Dr. Davis has had a profound impact on both her profession and this state. We are pleased to honor her for the tremendous contributions she has made and undoubtedly will continue to make in the future.”

Davis was recognized for her work on several new approaches to restoration, including the advancement of the concept of Green Streets, a technique that incorporates green elements such as stormwater practices into gray infrastructure projects like road repaving; and the technique of Living Shorelines, which uses natural habitat elements like wetlands to protect shorelines from erosion in place of hard shoreline armor.  Davis and the Chesapeake Bay Trust partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Green Streets and with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Maryland Department of the Environment, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources on Living Shorelines.

“I am honored to be selected as one of the Daily Record’s Most Influential Marylanders for 2013,” said Dr. Davis. “The Chesapeake Bay Trust is a unique and flourishing organization that accomplishes so much to help advance Bay restoration, innovative science, community outreach, and education throughout Maryland.  Our team at the Trust is constantly looking for ways to incorporate the best, newest science and technologies in all areas in which we work, from the social science of behavior change to advances in engineering for restoration work. I look forward to leading the Trust into the future as we continue to grow and expand to meet the ever-increasing needs of our grantees, partners and the general public.”

The list of individuals named to the 2013 list of Influential Marylanders was selected by the editors of The Daily Record.

Five Influential Marylanders were selected in each of 10 categories. These categories include civic leadership, communications, education, finance, freestyle, health care, law, philanthropy, real estate and technology.

Influential Marylanders will be honored at a cocktail reception on March 21 at the Grand Lodge in Cockeysville, Maryland. Honorees will also be profiled in the Influential Marylanders magazine, distributed at the cocktail reception and published in The Daily Record on March 22.
